Mooncup Online

This site was set up because I have used tampons and pads for the last 15 years, not even considering that there could be an alternative.

Since discovering Mooncup menstrual cups and The Keeper a few months ago I was amazed at how well they worked and I now feel a real desire to spread the word to women everywhere.  It was one of those Eureka moments where I couldn’t believe that more people didn’t know about this great invention in the field of female hygiene.

The Mooncup is basically a small squishy cup made from medical grade silicone which sits inside the vagina and collects blood/fluid during your period rather than absorbing it.  It is reusable, safe, ethical, cheap and best of all, it means you can say goodbye to tampons and pads forever. Many women with menstrual problems have found their symptoms are less after using the Mooncup.

Sometimes ‘ethical’ products can mean having to spend more, or making a compromise in comfort or convenience.  The Mooncup is different because not only is it utterly environmentally friendly, I truly believe it is a superior alternative to tampons and pads (as well as being a thousand times cheaper !)

Surprisingly, reusable menstrual cups have actually been around for as long as tampons.   One suspects that tampons eventually became the preferred product because large corporates invested heavily in marketing an ‘essential’ product that women would have to keep buying throughout their lifetime, and menstrual cups eventually fell out of favour.  Of course this means we have been duped into thinking throwaway tampons and pads are the only option.  Added to this is the ridiculous Victorian notion that it’s not ladylike to be familiar with our anatomy or even to touch our vaginas.    The good news is that products like the Mooncup (and the Keeper in the US) are starting to become more mainstream - they are for busy, modern, normal, ethically minded women like you and me !

Finally, there is the environmental argument.  In the West, each woman goes through an average of 10,000 tampons in her lifetime.  Of course there are environmental impacts not only in the manufacture, transporting, dying and packaging, but used sanitary products all end up clogging the world’s sewerage system and seas.  Using a mooncup is an easy way to feel a little bit better about your impact on the environment.  Another great reason to use one.

I want this site to be a great place for women to find out more about the wonderful mooncup, how to use one, and of course - you can buy your very own mooncup right here !
